Opinion polls show no clear winner as Greece election campaign ends

FXStreet (Mumbai) - All five opinion polls published so far, failed to show an outright winner in the Greek parliamentary elections, as neither of the two largest parties, Syriza and New Democracy, were close to the 38% threshold needed to represent a majority in the 300-seat parliament.

According to Greece's laws, the winner receives 50 bonus seats in the country's legislative body.

All the polls show the leftist Syriza, led by former Prime Minister Alexi Tsipras, and the conservative New Democracy, led by Vangelis Meimarakis, closing the election campaign by running neck-and-neck ahead of Sunday's vote.

Two of the surveys released on Thursday and Friday put Syriza slightly ahead, two showed New Democracy ahead, and one was a tie. A median estimate of the most recent polls shows Syriza maintaining a thin lead within the margin of error.
